SIDS & risk factors

The sudden infant death syndrome is the sudden death of a child younger than one year old. Nowadays, it remains a unexplained death, even after post-mortem investigations.

SIDS is the third cause of death of children under one year old after perinatal infections and birth defects.

The main risk factors are:

  • Baby's gender
  • Baby's age
  • Breastfeeding
  • Sleeping position
  • Smoking and passive smoking
  • Temperature of the bedroom
